PRP for Women’s Hair Loss in Beverly Hills

PRP for Women’s Hair Loss in Beverly Hills

Written and medically reviewed by David Nazarian, MD — Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Director of PRP Treatment Beverly Hills. Last medically reviewed: October 2026.

Hair loss in women can have many causes, including androgenetic alopecia, thyroid disease, iron deficiency, hormonal changes, postpartum shedding, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), nutritional deficiencies, medication effects and other medical conditions. PRP may be one part of treatment when the diagnosis and available evidence support its use.

Why women’s hair loss should be evaluated medically

Female-pattern hair loss does not always have the same cause as male-pattern hair loss. Before recommending PRP, Dr. Nazarian reviews the pattern and timing of hair loss, medical history, medications and other symptoms that may point to an underlying cause.

Common causes we consider

  • Female-pattern androgenetic alopecia
  • Thyroid disorders
  • Iron deficiency or anemia
  • Perimenopause or menopause-related hormonal changes
  • Postpartum shedding
  • PCOS and androgen excess
  • Vitamin or nutritional deficiencies
  • Telogen effluvium after illness, stress or weight change
  • Medication-related hair loss

When PRP may fit into a treatment plan

PRP is prepared from your own blood and injected into selected areas of the scalp. It may be considered for women with certain types of non-scarring hair loss, particularly when follicles are still present. It is not appropriate for every cause of hair loss and does not replace treatment of an underlying thyroid, iron, hormonal or nutritional problem when one is present.

What happens during treatment

At our Beverly Hills office, blood is drawn and processed to prepare platelet-rich plasma. The scalp is treated using a series of small injections in the areas selected during your evaluation. Numbing may be used for comfort. Learn more in our What to Expect at Your PRP Visit guide.

How many sessions are usually recommended?

Treatment plans vary by diagnosis and response. Many patients are treated as a series rather than a single session, followed by maintenance only when clinically appropriate. We do not recommend the same protocol for every patient.

PRP hair treatment cost

PRP for hair loss is currently $800 per session. The 3-session package is $2,100 and the 5-session package is $3,300. The $450 consultation is credited toward your first treatment if you proceed. See the full PRP and PRF price list for current pricing.

What results can you expect?

Results vary. When improvement occurs, it generally develops gradually over several months. PRP cannot guarantee regrowth and may be less helpful when hair follicles are severely miniaturized or absent. Your response depends on the diagnosis, severity, age, other medical factors and adherence to the rest of your treatment plan.

Risks and limitations

Temporary soreness, swelling, bruising, bleeding, headache, scalp tenderness, infection and lack of benefit are possible. Evidence for PRP varies by type of hair loss, and treatment should be individualized after diagnosis.

Frequently asked questions

Can PRP help women with thinning hair?

PRP may help selected women with certain types of non-scarring hair loss, especially female-pattern hair loss. It is important to identify and treat other causes first or at the same time.

Do I need blood tests before PRP?

Not every patient needs the same testing. Depending on your history and symptoms, Dr. Nazarian may consider tests related to thyroid function, iron status, hormones or nutritional deficiencies.

Can PRP treat postpartum hair loss?

Postpartum shedding often improves with time, so treatment depends on the diagnosis, duration and severity. PRP is not automatically recommended for postpartum hair loss.

Can PRP help hair loss from PCOS?

PRP may be considered as part of a broader plan for selected patients, but androgen excess and other features of PCOS may also need medical evaluation and treatment.
