PRP under-eye treatment uses platelet-rich plasma from your own blood, applied with microneedling or injected in small amounts, to improve under-eye skin quality, crepiness and some types of dark circles. Improvement is usually gradual over 2 to 3 sessions spaced about a month apart, and results vary by the cause of the dark circles. A single session is $850; the $450 consultation is credited toward your first treatment.

What causes dark circles, and which ones can PRP help?
Dark circles have several causes: thin skin that shows the blood vessels underneath, pigmentation, volume loss that creates a shadow (a “tear trough”), puffiness, and lifestyle factors such as sleep and allergies. PRP aims to support collagen and improve skin thickness and texture, so it is best suited to thin, crepey skin and mild discoloration. Deep hollows may be better treated with filler, which Dr. Nazarian can discuss at your consultation.
What does the research show?
Evidence is still limited to small studies. In one study of women treated with PRP injections under the eyes, infraorbital color became more even, although measured melanin levels did not change significantly (Mehryan et al., Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, 2014). Larger controlled studies are needed, so we set realistic expectations before treatment.
What to expect at your visit
- Consultation to identify the likely cause of your dark circles.
- Blood draw: we draw 4 tubes of blood per session, more than many clinics use, to prepare a larger volume of platelet-rich plasma.
- Numbing cream is applied for comfort.
- PRP is applied with microneedling, injected in tiny amounts with a fine needle or cannula, or both, depending on your skin.
- Most people return to normal activities the same or next day.
Results and number of sessions
Changes build gradually as collagen remodels. Most patients do 2 to 3 sessions about 4 weeks apart, with maintenance every 6 to 12 months if desired.
Risks and side effects
Swelling, redness and bruising under the eyes are common for a few days, and swelling can last up to a week in some people. Infection is uncommon with sterile technique. PRP is not appropriate for people with bleeding or platelet disorders or active skin infection.

Frequently asked questions
PRP or filler for under-eye hollows?
Filler adds volume immediately; PRP works on skin quality over time. Some patients benefit from both. Dr. Nazarian will recommend based on your anatomy.
How long does swelling last?
Usually 2 to 5 days. Cold compresses and sleeping with your head slightly raised can help.
What about PRF under the eyes?
We also offer PRF (platelet-rich fibrin) for under eyes, a related preparation made from your own blood. PRF forms a fibrin matrix and releases platelet-derived signaling proteins over time; whether PRP or PRF is preferable depends on anatomy, treatment goals, and physician assessment.
How long do PRP under-eye results last?
Results vary. Improvements in skin texture and crepiness can persist for months, but PRP does not permanently stop aging or correct every cause of dark circles. Some patients choose maintenance treatment after the initial series based on response.
PRP vs PRF under eyes: what is the difference?
Both are prepared from your own blood. PRP is a platelet-rich plasma preparation, while PRF contains a fibrin matrix and is processed differently. The best choice depends on the treatment area, the cause of the under-eye concern, and your individual anatomy.
