Vaginal PRP Benefits: What It May Help and What Is Not Proven

Written and medically reviewed by David Nazarian, MD — Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Director of PRP Treatment Beverly Hills. Last medically reviewed: October 2026.

Quick answer: Potentially reported benefits of vaginal PRP in small studies include improvement in some measures of sexual function, lubrication, orgasm, pain, or urinary symptoms. However, the evidence is not strong enough to guarantee benefit, define the ideal candidate, or establish vaginal PRP as a standard treatment.

What benefits are being studied?

Researchers have evaluated platelet-rich plasma for female sexual dysfunction using questionnaires that measure desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, satisfaction, and pain. Some studies have also evaluated stress urinary incontinence and vaginal-health outcomes.

What vaginal PRP does not reliably promise

  • A guaranteed increase in orgasm
  • A permanent increase in genital sensation
  • A cure for painful intercourse
  • A proven treatment for menopausal vaginal dryness
  • A guaranteed treatment for urinary leakage

Why results may differ from one woman to another

Female sexual symptoms can be driven by menopause, medications, pelvic-floor dysfunction, neurologic conditions, pain disorders, relationship factors, psychological factors, or a combination. A biologic injection may not address the dominant cause.

How I discuss expected benefit

I frame vaginal PRP as an investigational option. The most important part of the visit is deciding whether the symptom is likely hormonal, pelvic-floor, neurologic, pain-related, medication-related, or multifactorial. That determines whether PRP is even a reasonable discussion.

Important: Vaginal PRP and platelet-rich plasma for female sexual dysfunction remain investigational/off-label. Evidence is limited and heterogeneous, and these treatments should not be presented as proven cures or replacements for established evaluation and treatment.
