PRP for Erectile Dysfunction (P-Shot) in Beverly Hills

Written and medically reviewed by David Nazarian, MD, board-certified internist · Providing PRP therapy in Beverly Hills since 2008

PRP for erectile dysfunction (sometimes called the P-Shot) uses platelet-rich plasma from your own blood, injected into the penis, with the goal of supporting blood flow and tissue health. Early studies are encouraging for some men with mild to moderate ED, but results are mixed and the American Urological Association still considers PRP for ED investigational. Dr. Nazarian reviews your health first and discusses proven treatments alongside PRP. A PRP session is $1,200 and a PRF session is $1,500; the $450 consultation is credited toward your first treatment.

What is PRP for erectile dysfunction?

Platelets contain growth factors involved in tissue repair and the formation of new blood vessels. In PRP therapy, a small amount of your blood is drawn, spun in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets, and the resulting plasma is injected into the shaft of the penis after numbing. The idea is that these growth factors may improve the health of the blood vessels and erectile tissue.

What does the research show?

  • A 2021 double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial of 60 men with mild to moderate vasculogenic ED found that more men who received PRP reached a meaningful improvement in erectile function scores than men who received placebo (Poulios et al., Journal of Sexual Medicine, 2021).
  • A separate 2021 randomized, placebo-controlled trial found no significant difference between PRP and placebo (Masterson et al., Journal of Urology, 2021).
  • The American Urological Association guideline considers PRP for ED investigational, meaning more high-quality studies are needed.

In short: some men improve, others do not, and PRP is not a replacement for evaluating the cause of ED or for established treatments such as oral medications.

Who may be a candidate?

PRP is most often considered for men with mild to moderate ED who want to explore options beyond or alongside oral medication. Because ED can be an early sign of heart disease, diabetes, low testosterone or other conditions, Dr. Nazarian, an internist, starts with a medical history and can order lab work to look for underlying causes.

PRP is not appropriate for people with bleeding or platelet disorders, active infection, or certain blood cancers. Tell us about all medications, especially blood thinners.

What to expect at your visit

  1. Consultation and review of your medical history.
  2. Blood draw: we draw 4 tubes of blood per session, more than many clinics use, to prepare a larger volume of platelet-rich plasma.
  3. Numbing cream is applied; the procedure itself takes a few minutes after about 30 minutes of preparation.
  4. Most men return to normal activities the same day. Some offices recommend a series of treatments; Dr. Nazarian will discuss what fits your situation.

Risks and side effects

Common effects are temporary soreness, bruising or swelling at the injection sites. Infection is uncommon with sterile technique. Because PRP is made from your own blood, allergic reactions are unlikely.

Cost

Frequently asked questions

Is PRP for ED FDA approved?

The devices used to prepare PRP are FDA-cleared, but PRP injections are not FDA-approved specifically for erectile dysfunction.

Will PRP increase size?

There is no reliable evidence that PRP increases penile length or girth, and we do not offer it for that purpose.

Can PRP be combined with other ED treatments?

Yes. Many men continue oral medication. Dr. Nazarian will review your options, including medications and treatment of any underlying condition.
